The VC Fellowship is a company that teaches how to evaluate D2C unit economics, inventory models, and what makes consumer brands defensible.
Cava Athleisure raised ₹40 crore in Series A at a ₹215 crore valuation, led by Sharrp Ventures | Harsh Mariwala Investment Office Ventures (₹21 crore) with V3 Ventures and existing investor Spring Marketing Capital. For founders watching India's athleisure market - projected to grow from $13 billion in 2024 to $30 billion by 2030 - this deal shows what investors reward: full-stack control, India-specific product fit, and inventory discipline. Founded in 2020 by sisters Ria Mittal and Shreya Mittal. Cava Athleisure solved a fundamental problem: most athleisure brands design for Western body types (average US women's height: 5'4" vs. India: 5'0"). Cava Athleisure designs specifically for Indian consumers with full-stack manufacturing - sketch to stitch in-house. The capital pool includes Sharrp Ventures | Harsh Mariwala Investment Office, V3 Ventures (founded by Arjun Vaidya, an early Cava customer), and Spring Marketing Capital (founded by Raja Ganapathy, ex-CMO Sequoia Capital). Sharrp typically deploys $1-3 million in Series A/B consumer rounds, leveraging Marico Limited's distribution and branding expertise. Their 39-company portfolio includes Nykaa, Mamaearth, SleepyCat, and Wholsum Foods (Slurrp Farm and Mille). What makes Cava Athleisure defensible: the top 15 styles generate 60%+ revenue; it looks like fashion but operates on athleisure fundamentals (fewer SKUs, high repeat purchases, predictable demand). Products use BCI-certified cotton and recycled polyester, priced ₹800-2,500. Rishabh Mariwala noted Cava demonstrates strong consumer pull and disciplined execution. Arjun Vaidya highlighted that the founders operate with decades of textile expertise (their family has been in the business for 30+ years). The capital will accelerate product development, brand building, and omnichannel expansion (targeting 5-7 retail stores by year-end). Congratulations to Ria Mittal and Shreya Mittal. Recognition to Rishabh Mariwala (Sharrp Ventures | Harsh Mariwala Investment Office), Harsh Mariwala, Arjun Vaidya (V3 Ventures), and Raja Ganapathy (Spring Marketing Capital) for backing India's athleisure category.
