Platform Places is a company focused on the revitalization of high streets and communities across the UK.
Who's leading the revitalisation of our high streets? Around the country, pioneers like Nudge Community Builders are showing the way: 🏘️ Acquiring and transforming property, by and for the local community, into markets, cafes, affordable flats, workspaces, arts venues and more. 🤝 Building powerful partnerships with local councils and developers to revive their places. 🌱 Addressing the vacancy crisis and social injustice, while supporting local enterprise and reinvesting in the local economy. It's wonderful to see Hannah Sloggett, Wendy Hart & team's work in Plymouth get this recognition in the Guardian, alongside Power to Change's 'Shuttered Front' research showing the deep connection between decline of social infrastructure and polarisation. Nudge is part of the 🍄 Mycelial Network of Community Asset Developers 🍄 — a peer solidarity network for organisations across England who are doing this work to create socially and racially just, ecologically resilient places But this approach isn't scaling at the pace needed 📈 It's long-term work which today heavily relies on deep personal sacrifice and resilience. Community leaders are often piecing together short-term grants, trying to transform a system that can feel like it's working against them, despite growing examples of councils and private assets owners working together with communities in #LocalPropertyPartnerships. 💸 The funding ecosystem needs to be unlocked at scale. As the article says, this means "philanthropic funding, social investment and public money" for both revenue funding and capital grants.
